Cross-Party Group Report on How to Reverse the Fall in the Number of Qualified Teachers of Deaf Children

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the publication of the report of the Cross-Party Group on Deafness, How do we reverse the fall in the number of Qualified Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People in Scotland?; believes that qualified teachers of deaf children and young people are vital for enabling deaf children to reach their full potential, including in the Banffshire and Buchan Coast constituency; considers that the number of qualified teachers of deaf children has fallen dramatically in Scotland, by 37% since 2011; understands that there is currently no explicit right for any deaf child or parent to have access to a qualified teacher of the deaf; further understands that there is no salary increment with the relevant qualification, and understands that the reported declining number in qualified teachers coincides with a period where deaf attainment is below that of the hearing population.
