Lodged by Colin Beattie (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 18 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the work of Chinese authorities in building a memorial to honour the brave Chinese fishermen of Zhoushan who, it understands, rescued hundreds of British prisoners of war in 1942, including many men from The Royal Scots, from the sinking of the Lisbon Maru, while under fire from Japanese soldiers; understands that the memorial was built in response to a request to China’s President, Xi Jinping, from the daughter of the last survivor of the Lisbon Maru, and further understands that the unveiling is scheduled to take place on 20 May 2025, and will be attended by the British Ambassador to China.
