The motion

That the Parliament congratulates The People’s Project in Dumfries, which has created a Garden of Remembrance to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day; recognises that the garden, on Brooms Road, across from St Michael’s church, was created for the Royal British Legion Scotland to provide a peaceful space that honours the lives of all those who took part in the Second World War in Europe; acknowledges that the opening of the garden was undertaken after a service of commemoration at St Michael’s and South Church on 11 May 2025, and that the garden was then officially opened by Lord-Lieutenant Fiona Armstrong; understands that the construction and development of the garden involved a collaboration of local supporters, which included skilled craftsmen in masonry, wood and landscaping, to bring together a reflective space to honour those who fought for the country, and wishes The Peoples Project continuing success in making Dumfries and Galloway “The Queen of the South”.
