Celebrating the Nethercraigs Football Camps
The motion
That the Parliament celebrates the Scottish Football Association (SFA) and Scottish Gas Football Camps initiative, which aims to "hit the back of the net" by supporting young people across Scotland through sport; recognises what it sees as the powerful partnership between Scottish Gas and the SFA in delivering 120 week-long football camps during school holidays, providing thousands of children from all backgrounds with free access to "the beautiful game"; notes that a key intention of the programme is to relegate holiday hunger by offering free lunches to all attendees; welcomes the promotion of positive values through the Scottish Gas Positive Energy campaign, encouraging teamwork, communication, respect and fair play; acknowledges the engagement of over 1,400 children during the 2025 Easter Holidays at 39 camps across the nation; highlights what it sees as the importance of sport in child development, as shown by the OnePoll study indicating that 9 in 10 adults see sport as vital for key skills and 82% of parents recognising the role of coaches; calls for continued support and expansion of what it sees as this inclusive and inspiring initiative, which brings joy, development, and opportunity to communities across Scotland; recognises that at Nethercraigs sports complex, in the Glasgow Pollok constituency, free Easter camps were attended by 48 boys and 34 girls, and understands that building on this success, similar camps will be running in the summer holidays, as well as the ongoing programmes run by Pollok United at Nethercraigs to provide access to football year-round.
