Recognising Pride Month and Celebrating Dundee Pride

That the Parliament recognises June as Pride Month, an annual celebration that recognises the LGBTQIA+ community and their contribution to society; understands that Pride started as, and remains, a protest; notes the history of Pride, having started in June 1969, when a group of LGBTQIA+ people in New York City rioted following a police raid of the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar located on Christopher Street in Greenwich Village, which, it understands, was a turning point for the LGBTQIA+ community; further notes that the following year, in June 1970, organised demonstrations took place in New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco to mark the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots; highlights what it sees as the tremendous strides the LGBTQIA+ rights movement has made over the past few decades, and believes that much of the progress in visibility is thanks in part to pride parades and marches that have taken place in cities around the world, and the issues of inequality, prejudice and oppression that they have highlighted; celebrates and commends Dundee Pride, which takes place on 14 June 2025, and other Pride events taking place in the North East Scotland region, as well as those across Scotland and the wider UK, and extends its best wishes for every success in the future.
