The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Finlay, Kellan, and Nikolas, pupils of the Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies (RMPS) department at Banff Academy in Banffshire and Buchan Coast, on receiving national recognition in the Beyond Srebrenica National Schools Competition; warmly congratulates Finlay, an S4 pupil, on being named overall Senior Phase winner for his moving and thoughtful piece of writing on the Bosnian Genocide, and for being awarded a place on a fully-funded visit to Bosnia, including to the Srebrenica Memorial Centre; recognises the powerful and empathetic contributions of S3 pupils Kellan and Nikolas, who also received special commendation; understands that the competition honours the importance of justice, remembrance, and understanding through the lens of the Srebrenica genocide; believes that this outstanding achievement is not only a testament to the compassion, dedication, and insight of the pupils, but also to the ethos of Banff Academy and the high-quality teaching and guidance provided by its staff; further believes that education is key to ensuring the horrors of Bosnia are never repeated, by fostering awareness, empathy, and a commitment to human rights in future generations, and welcomes the recognition that all three pupils will receive at the Scottish Parliament on 29 May 2025, White Armband Day, as a reflection of their dedication to memory, justice and global citizenship.
