The motion
That the Parliament recognises the UN World Oceans Day 2025, taking place on 8 June; notes that the theme for this year is "Wonder: Sustaining What Sustains Us"; understands the critical function that oceans have in sustaining and regulating the Earth’s biosphere and climate, as well as providing employment, food, energy, and knowledge; recognises the valuable contribution that responsible and sustainable stewardship of the ocean makes to Scotland’s economy, especially in the North East Scotland region; encourages communities across Scotland to develop a better understanding of the impact that exploration, extraction and exploitation have on the ocean, and calls on regulators and governments nationally and internationally to work co-operatively in protecting, restoring and sustaining oceans.
