New College Lanarkshire Recognised as College of the Year

The motion

That the Scottish Parliament congratulates New College Lanarkshire on being named college of the year at The Herald Education Awards 2025, which were held in Glasgow on 29 May; welcomes the judges’ recognition of the breadth, depth, and quality of work taking place at the college, alongside its commitment to innovation and the inspirational leadership of Professor Christopher Moore; acknowledges what it sees as the dedication, creativity, and hard work of the college’s staff and students, which have been rightfully celebrated; notes that this accolade was one of several won by the college on the night, including Chloe Sandilands, Student President at the Motherwell Campus, receiving the Outstanding College Student Award, reflecting her exemplary leadership and resilience; recognises the success of the Undergraduate School partnership between New College Lanarkshire and the University of the West of Scotland in winning the Widening Access Award for breaking down historic barriers to degree provision in Lanarkshire; commends Ann Baxter, Deputy Principal for Students and the Curriculum, on receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her remarkable contribution throughout her career, and acknowledges that the honour of college of the year is shared by all those involved with New College Lanarkshire, including staff, students, fellows, honorary appointees, and supporters in public life.
