Union Terrace Gardens
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that Union Terrace Gardens, in Aberdeen city centre, has been named one of Scotland’s top architectural achievements in the 2025 Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) Awards; understands that the redevelopment of the gardens, which was led by Stallan-Brand Architecture and Design, in collaboration with LDA Design, was praised as a "benchmark in public-realm regeneration" and said to demonstrate "the power of sensitive, people-centred design to transform a city’s sense of place"; notes that the annual awards, which are presented by the RIAS, are open to all types and sizes of architectural projects, with an expert jury considering a range of factors, including the project’s architectural integrity, usability, context, delivery, execution and sustainability; further notes that Union Terrace Gardens will now go forward in the longlist for the RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award, and hopes that it is successful in being named on the shortlist when this is announced in July.
