Carers Week 2025, Carers Trust Partnership with the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges that 9 to 15 June is Carers Week 2025; notes that this year's theme, Caring About Equality, highlights what it sees as the inequalities facing unpaid carers in Scotland today and the steps that it believes are needed to create a fairer society for unpaid carers; notes that 12 June 2025 focuses on younger carers and the inequalities that it believes they face; recognises the exciting partnership between Carers Trust Scotland and the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), allowing over 150 young carers to attend Edinburgh Zoo free of charge on 12 June 2025; appreciates what it sees as the importance of equal access to nature and wildlife for all; considers that this is an important moment to ensure that young unpaid carers can connect with nature and have fun at the zoo; believes that young carers deserve respite from their caring roles and that all young carers should have a right to a break; highlights what it sees as the important work of RZSS community programmes, which it considers inspire and enable people to connect with nature in ways meaningful to them, with the ultimate aim of creating a world where nature is protected, valued and loved; recognises what it sees as the vital support that local carer organisations provide to young carers and unpaid carers across Scotland; further recognises what it sees as the importance of Carers Week 2025 in highlighting the inequalities that it believes all unpaid carers in Scotland face, including a greater risk of poverty, social isolation, and poor mental and physical health; highlights what it sees as the urgent need to address and overcome these inequalities; believes that appropriate services and support should be available to all young carers across Scotland to ensure that their rights are upheld, they have a fair chance to follow their aspirations, they achieve their full potential and live fulfilled lives, and wishes all young carers taking part a very enjoyable day at Edinburgh Zoo.
