The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Nairn Moffat, a Graduate Apprentice at Glasgow Caledonian University and employee of Torishima, on being named the 2025 Engineering Graduate Apprentice of the Year at the Scottish Engineering Awards; understands that this award acknowledges Nairn’s outstanding contribution to the development of module design for sub-sea desalination systems, including his work on a 1.4MW, 40-tonne sub-sea pumping module designed to operate submerged in seawater for over seven years; commends Nairn for his innovation and technical excellence throughout the project, as well as his ability to align with client and international standards; notes what it sees as the vital role that Graduate Apprenticeship programmes play in strengthening Scotland’s engineering sector by combining academic rigour with hands-on industry experience; congratulates both Glasgow Caledonian University and Torishima for their role in supporting and mentoring Nairn, and believes that this recognition is a testament to the potential of Scotland’s apprentice engineers and the value of work-based learning in meeting the future needs of the economy.
