Eight Recipients Share £69,000 Windfall from Community Fund

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates eight organisations in Dumfries and Galloway that have been awarded more than £69,000 from the Glenkens & District Community Fund; notes that the purpose of the fund is to support communities to be connected, resilient and carbon-neutral places to live, work and visit as well as encourage young people to thrive; believes that the eight awards reflect these ambitions with more than half of the funded projects directly benefitting children, young people and families in the area; acknowledges that among the recipients is Moniave Playcare, a parent-run nursery, which received £7,419 towards its operating costs to help maintain an essential childcare provision in the community, in particular, delivering activities for young people with autism spectrum disorder; welcomes an award of £1,000 to Carsphairn Community Woodland to fund a six month young apprentice position; notes that Glenkens Community and Arts Trust Ltd received two separate awards of £21,072 to support staffing and delivery costs for Glenkens Youth Group and £4,459 to facilitate the Glenkens Food Month, an initiative to bring the local community together; recognises other awards to Balmaghie Public Hall, £8,311 to Glenkens Agricultural Society to support its participation in the popular Glenkens Show and £6,234 to the Pamela Young Trust to help fund a drainage survey on a proposed social housing site in Balmaclellan; understands that the fund is provided by Blackcraig Wind Farm and Greencoat from its Windy Rig Wind Farm, and wishes everyone involved in the various projects continued success as they look to invest in the younger generation.
