Playlist for Life Supports People in Eastwood Diagnosed with Dementia
The motion
That the Parliament recognises the important work carried out by the charity, Playlist for Life, to support people living with dementia in Scotland and the wider UK; acknowledges that the work of Playlist for Life is focused on ensuring that every person who has received a diagnosis of dementia is able to access a unique and personalised playlist of their favourite songs, and for family members and carers to know how they can use it; understands that the organisation has pointed to scientific research carried out over more than 20 years as evidence that listening to a personalised playlist can enhance the lives of people living with dementia; further understands that a personalised playlist is believed to be able to achieve this outcome through improving a person's mood, lessening the effects of anxiety, making it easier to complete challenging tasks and stimulating recall of important life events to help connect with family and carers; recognises that Playlist for Life received the Charity of the Year award at the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) annual awards event in 2024 for its accomplishments with partners and supporters over the course of the previous year; notes that Playlist for Life has set up a UK-wide network of over 2,500 community help points; further notes that Eastwood residents can access more than 25 of these help points and that the charity has worked in partnership with community organisations such as Mearns Kirk Helping Hands; recognises that at the help points, local families are able to obtain free resources to support the creation of personalised playlists, with detailed information also published on the charity's website, and commends Playlist for Life for the strong support it offers to people who are living with dementia.
