Motion of Condolence

Lodged by Paul Sweeney (Scottish Labour) Standard Motion 22 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament expresses its shock and sadness at the untimely death of Peter Krykant at the age of 48; extends its condolences to his family and friends; acknowledges Mr Krykant's tireless campaigning for more humane and compassionate treatment of people experiencing drug addiction; believes that Mr Krykant's initiative to establish an unsanctioned mobile overdose prevention centre in 2020 with the assistance of other volunteers, changed how many Scottish institutions viewed safer drug consumption measures; understands that Mr Krykant's supervision of service users during the pilot resulted in nine overdoses being reversed, preventing the death of eight people; believes that the opening of the UK's first official overdose prevention facility in Glasgow in January 2025 is widely understood to be a positive reflection of Mr Krykant's pioneering voluntary work on the earlier unsanctioned pilot, and recognises what it sees as this significant contribution to public life in Scotland.
