Fur Free Britain Campaign

That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the overwhelming volume of public support for a ban on the sale and import of fur, reflected by the 1.5 million-signature petition recently handed to the UK Government by the Fur Free Britain campaign, calling for an end to fur being imported and sold in Britain; understands that, despite Scotland banning fur farming more than two decades ago on animal cruelty grounds, Britain continues to import millions of pounds worth of fur from overseas; believes that animals endure a terrible existence in small, barren cages before being electrocuted or gassed to death for fashion; commends the work being done on this issue by organisations, including Humane World for Animals alongside Ruth Jones MP, whose Bill proposes a ban, and urges the Scottish Government to take action north of the border to end what it sees as the double standard of fur farming being banned, yet still allowing fur imports and sales to continue.
