World Premiere of GOWK to Take Place at the Edinburgh International Film Festival

The motion

 That the Parliament congratulates emerging filmmaker Ryan Pollock, originally from Netherton, Wishaw, on the world premiere of his latest short film, GOWK, at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in August 2025; notes that Ryan, who was a participant in the Sean Connery Talent Lab, was selected to take part in an initiative supported by BBC Film, which provided £25,000 and creative mentorship to develop short films; understands that GOWK was written and directed by Ryan and filmed in his hometown of Wishaw, with support from producers Kitty McMurdo-Schad and Katriona Tweedie, cinematographer Vasileios Kapnis, and editor Fraser Ballantyne; commends the involvement of 14-year-old Jack Mavin, an S3 pupil at St Aidan’s High School in Pather, who stars in the lead role, and recognises the significance of platforms such as the Edinburgh Film Festival and BBC Film in nurturing the next generation of creative talent in Scotland.
