Garngad Gardens
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the official naming of a new park, Garngad Gardens, at Provanhill Street in Glasgow; commends all those involved in developing the site; acknowledges that the community-led initiative has been delivered by Rosemount Development Trust, which secured funding from the Scottish Government; understands that Garngad Gardens is the single largest investment in greenspace in Royston's history, and will see the development of social space, growing space and transforming a plot of vacant and derelict land that, it considers, has been a blight on the community for decades; believes that Garngad Gardens is a fitting name for the open space, given that Garngad is the original name of the area, which was rebranded as Royston in 1942; understands that, despite this, many locals who are proud of their heritage still refer to their community as The Garngad today; further understands that a community consultation to determine the name of the park saw 61% of the community choose Garngad Gardens, and believes that Garngad Gardens is both a celebration and reclamation of the area's heritage, as well as a vibrant community space for the area's future.
