Rocks and Wheels Project in Dalbeattie

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Dalbeattie Community Initiative’s (DCI) Rocks and Wheels project on its First View celebration day, when it showcased the community-led project; understands that the project will redevelop the grade C-listed former Dalbeattie Primary School into a facility providing indoor bouldering, outdoor pump track, training courses, meeting rooms, a café and overnight accommodation; notes that DCI is a local charity that aims to promote social, economic and physical revival in the Dalbeattie area; further notes that local skills will be sourced to support the town’s commercial and service economy; understands that the site is located at the doorway to Dalbeattie’s award-winning 7stanes mountain bike trails, which offer some of the best mountain biking in the UK; further understands that the redevelopment cost of £7.2 million for renewal and renovation is funded through South of Scotland Enterprise, Dumfries and Galloway Council, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the Scottish Government Place Based Investment Programme; thanks all of the project team and volunteers who have participated in and led on establishing Rocks and Wheels, and wishes everyone every success going forward.
