Clydebank Women's Aid – 44 Years of Unwavering Support
The motion
That the Parliament notes with sadness the closure of Clydebank Women’s Aid (CWA) on 17 July 2025, after 44 years providing what it sees as vital and compassionate support to women, children and young people experiencing domestic abuse; notes that CWA is a grassroots feminist movement that was founded by local women in 1981, and that, in addition to providing services for women and young people, it has been involved in national campaigns aiming to make positive changes to legislation; understands that the group did not take the decision to close lightly; believes strongly that everyone deserves to live a life free of fear and violence and that Clydebank Women’s Aid has been critical to ensuring that women, children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse are protected and supported; acknowledges the tireless efforts of staff to keep the service running and what it sees as the lasting positive impact that the service has had upon the town of Clydebank; thanks sincerely the workers, past and present, for the unwavering compassion, dedication and warmth that they have shown women, children and young people for over 44 years; believes that their legacy will be everlasting, and wishes them every good wish for their future.
