Calling on the UK Government to Change Energy Policies

That the Parliament notes with concern data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showing that the UK economy shrank by 0.1% in May 2025; recognises that this is the second month in a row where the UK economy has shrunk, having shrunk by 0.3% in April; believes that falling oil and gas production is one of the main factors behind this contraction of the economy, with reports of gas imports to the UK increasing by 19% in 2025, while domestic production has decreased by 20% compared to pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels, and calls on the UK Government, and particularly the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, to take their heads out of the sand and look at the real-life consequences of their current energy policies, which, it believes, are so far failing to deliver on their pre-election promises, and to adopt a more practical and realistic approach to meeting energy needs that does not put thousands of jobs at risk, only to see imports being increased to meet energy needs.
