150 Years of Our Lady's High School

That the Parliament recognises the 150th anniversary of Our Lady's High School, Motherwell; understands that Our Lady’s High School is dedicated to the academic and spiritual development of all pupils, with its current accommodation dating from 1974, and records going back to 1875 and the birth of Catholic secondary education in Lanarkshire; commends Our Lady's High School on its Gold Rights Respecting School Award and recognises that this accolade is the highest of its kind and reflects the school’s outstanding and sustained commitment to embedding the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) across all aspects of school life; recognises the school's commitment to charity work, noting its history and partnership working with the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (SCIAF), St Andrew's Hospice and many more local and national charities; understands that Our Lady’s High School's mission is to develop and help pupils on their lifelong journey to become engaged in society and involved in their learning, and to recognise that they are the citizens of today, not just the citizens of tomorrow; notes that its mission is to grow in knowledge of God and of one another, to nurture the unique and intrinsic value of each person, recognising that everyone is different and that, with these differences, they all play a part in building the body of the school community; further notes that the school's aims include embedding the Catholic faith across all aspects of the school community, allowing opportunities for faith into action, to foster a community where everyone’s values, views and diversity are respected in a supportive and positively challenging environment, to provide the highest possible quality of learning and teaching where they foster high aspirations and determination in their students, to encourage them to be high achievers in all aspects of their learning, and to build a sense of achievement where pupils will learn the lifelong skills to help them both now and in the future; commends the longstanding commitment of the staff at Our Lady's High School to nurture and develop young people through encouraging positive opportunities, and sends its best wishes to all pupils, staff and the wider school community.
