Edinburgh International Festival, the First Charity and Arts Organisation to Receive Net Zero Pathway Verification

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Edinburgh International Festival (EIF) on becoming the first charity and arts organisation to achieve the British Standards Institute’s (BSI) Net Zero Pathway verification; recognises its operational progress, including 56% and 26% reductions in electricity and gas emissions at The Hub, a 42% reduction in general waste through sustainable concessions and 58% reduction in printed paper since 2023; believes that this is a major milestone in its commitment to genuine emissions reductions and its ambition to reach net zero by 2045; welcomes what it sees as EIF's leadership in embedding sustainability across its operations and artistic programme, from locally built productions and artist residencies to significant reductions in energy, waste, and travel emissions; acknowledges what it sees as its 77-year legacy of bringing together diverse cultures through world-class dance, opera, music and theatre, and appreciates its role in inspiring debate and collaboration on climate action for the benefit of people and planet.
