Neurological Alliance of Scotland’s Report, "Today’s Challenge, Tomorrow’s Hope"

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the Neurological Alliance of Scotland’s report, Today’s Challenge, Tomorrow’s Hope, which presents the findings of the second national survey of people impacted by neurological conditions; understands that this work adds to its Together for the 1 in 6 report, which was published in 2022, and which, it believes, was the first time that data had been independently published in Scotland; acknowledges that there are estimated to be one million people in Scotland with a neurological condition; believes that over half of adult respondents did not feel that health and social care services were meeting their needs, and that children also struggled with accessing support in the school system; notes that the new report highlights the importance of improving diagnosis, to enable people to access treatment and support earlier, and emphasises the need for more specialists and health professionals in neurology services; understands that the report highlighted the challenges facing carers and the difficulties of looking after someone with a chronic, unpredictable and sometimes life-threatening condition; commends the Neurological Alliance of Scotland for its work, and believes that more support is needed to improve the quality of life for people with neurological conditions.
