Whinhill Primary School Achieves UNICEF Gold Rights Respecting Schools Award in English and Gaelic

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Whinhill Primary School in Greenock on becoming one of the first schools in Scotland to receive a gold award from UNICEF’s Rights Respecting Schools programme for its protection and promotion of pupils’ rights in both English and Gaelic; acknowledges the hard work and dedication of the pupils, staff and leadership at Whinhill Primary School, including head teacher, Elizabeth Ruddy, children’s rights officer, Caroline McCahill, and principal teacher of Gaelic, Alistair MacPhee; recognises what it sees as the importance of embedding children’s rights into school values and the curriculum to create inclusive communities; commends the school's ongoing efforts, since first receiving this award in 2016, to maintain high standards of children's rights education; believes that this achievement reflects a commitment to ensuring that every child understands their rights from an early age; celebrates Whinhill Primary School's success as a model for other schools across Scotland, and wishes it continued success in its future endeavours.
