Flexible Childcare Services Scotland Named as STV Children’s Appeal Charity Partner

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the recent announcement that Flexible Childcare Services Scotland (FCSS) has been named as one of 11 charity partners for the STV Children’s Appeal; understands that the 11 charity partners will receive multi-year funding and support through the newly created Ignite Fund; believes that since its inception in 2011, the STV Children’s Appeal has invested in long-term projects with charitable organisations; further believes that the Ignite Fund is an important extension of this strategy; understands that FCSS, which is in its first year of funding, has already seen great success with its flexible childcare model; further understands that the model allows parents to book childcare by the hour and change their bookings in line with their employment commitments, enabling parents to start, continue or develop in their employment; notes that FCSS is a national charity in Scotland with numerous childcare settings, including in the Cummings Park area of Aberdeen, that delivers early learning and school age childcare, as well as specialist support for children and young people with additional support needs; further notes that the charity was created to challenge the inflexibility of the current childcare provision across Scotland with the goal of improving parental employment while simultaneously reducing child poverty; commends the incredible work carried out by FCSS, and wishes it all the best for the future.
