The Miracle Foundation SCIO: Supporting Trauma Experienced Children and Young People in Lanarkshire
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges the work of the Miracle Foundation SCIO in supporting children and young people in Lanarkshire, who have experienced trauma or traumatic loss, through counselling, art therapy, play therapy and family therapy; welcomes its mission to provide a safe haven for children, young people and their families to heal and restore mental and emotional wellbeing; recognises the importance of providing accessible trauma and mental health support for deaf children and young people in Lanarkshire; notes that a lack of timely trauma-informed mental health support, due to their disability, places deaf children and young people at what it sees as a significant and unacceptable disadvantage compared to their peers; believes that this is inconsistent with the provisions of the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014, the Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC) framework, and the Equality Act 2010; welcomes the announcement of the Miracle Foundation’s conference on 2 December 2025, which will explore the theme of “How Do We Build Trauma-Informed Communities” and will bring together professionals and advocates committed to creating supportive environments that foster healing and resilience, and notes that the conference is open to all members of the Scottish Parliament, Scottish Government, educators, advocates and community leaders.
