Recognising Aimee Lothian's Work with Epilepsy Scotland

That the Parliament recognises the outstanding work of Aimee Lothian, a youth work assistant based in Edinburgh, with Epilepsy Scotland and her creation and continued leadership of the Happy Mail project; understands that Aimee began the project in 2020 during furlough, motivated by her own experiences of loneliness and out of concern for the isolation experienced by young people with epilepsy during lockdown; notes that what began as handwritten letters to five young people has grown to include over 3,800 letters sent in specially curated Happy Mail parcels, which include activities, information, small gifts and a tailored letter for each recipient; acknowledges that the project supports a wide age range, from infants, via their parents, to young people aged up to 24; notes Aimee’s aspiration to expand the project to isolated adults and older people with epilepsy; commends the special festive parcels sent at Christmas, particularly to children and families living in poverty, where the enclosed gift may be the only one they receive, and praises Aimee’s creativity, dedication and compassion in delivering joy, connection and support to those living with epilepsy across Scotland.
