Prestigious Person-centred Practice Award for Elaine Beswick

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Elaine Beswick, senior care co-ordinator for complexcare in the west of Dumfries and Galloway in the South Scotland Region, onbeing named runner-up in the prestigious Jane Davies Award for Person-centredPractice, administered by Healthcare Improvement Scotland; notes that the awardwas established in memory of Jane Davies, a pioneer in Scottish healthcareengagement, and recognises individuals and teams who exemplify compassion,kindness, and a deep commitment to listening and responding to what trulymatters to those they support; commends Elaine for what it sees as herexceptional work in supporting a vulnerable adult through a period of profoundpersonal loss and transition, demonstrating empathy, consistency, and advocacy,and ensuring that the individual's voice remained central to every decisionmade; acknowledges what it sees as her creative use of tailored communicationtools, such as social stories, and her dedication to continuity of care, which,it understands, enabled the person to maintain vital routines and relationshipsduring a time of upheaval; notes the praise from Clare Morrison, director of engagementand change at Healthcare Improvement Scotland, and from Dumfries and GallowayCouncil’s Social Work Services Committee, who highlighted Elaine’s embodimentof the values of compassion, dignity, and person-centred care; celebratesElaine's achievement, which, it believes, is a shining example of the vitalrole of social work in supporting people through complex and emotionaljourneys, reinforcing Dumfries and Galloway Council’s commitment to deliveringcare that is not only effective, but deeply human, and wishes Elaine well forthe future.
