Welcoming the LGB Alliance’s Report, Compelled Conformity
The motion
As an amendment to motion S6M-18451 in the name of Tess White (Welcoming the LGB Alliance’s Report, Compelled Conformity), leave out from “welcomes” to end and insert “notes the publication of the LGB Alliance report, Compelled Conformity: Lesbian, gay, and bisexual experiences of EDI in UK workplaces; understands that the report’s findings are based on a survey of just 235 of the LGB Alliance’s own supporters and nine individual interviews, and believes, therefore, that it cannot be considered representative of lesbian, gay and bisexual people’s views; considers that the LGB Alliance is an organisation with specific negative views on trans inclusion, and that a survey of its own supporters is likely to be biased in ways that are unaddressed in the report; further considers that far more robust data does exist on this issue, such as YouGov's polling in 2023, which found that 75% of LGB people in Britain have a positive view of trans people and only 8% have a negative view, with the corresponding figures for lesbians being 84% positive and 6% negative; considers that lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people have been working together towards the common cause of equality for at least six decades; notes that during summer 2025 thousands of LGBTQIA+ people and allies have come together to call for equality, and to celebrate the progress made so far, at LGBTQIA+ Pride events around Scotland; affirms that everyone is entitled to dignity and respect in the workplace, and believes that equality law and EDI practices and policies should be based on the principles of equality and solidarity, rather than what it considers to be the ideological agendas of anti-equality politicians and lobby groups."
