Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month; notes that approximately320 children and young people under 25 are diagnosed with cancer each year inScotland, around 135 of whom are children; acknowledges that cancer remains theleading cause of disease-related death in this age group; recognises the uniqueexperiences and distinct challenges faced by children and young people withcancer, including the need for treatment in specialist centres, access toage-appropriate services and unique psychological support; notes with concern that they and their families often face significant additionalfinancial costs because of cancer, including travel costs to access treatmentand care; recognises the vital work of the NHS and charities that supportchildren and young people with cancer, and calls on the Scottish Government towork collaboratively with partners to support children and young people withcancer and their families, so that no one faces the challenges of cancer alone.
