World Sepsis Day 2025
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges that 13 September is World Sepsis Day; recognises that sepsis is a life-threatening condition that kills more than 11 million people globally each year, including over 4,000 people annually in Scotland; understands that sepsis, also known as septicaemia or blood poisoning, occurs when the body’s response to infection causes damage to its own tissues and organs; considers that early identification and treatment, particularly the administration of antibiotics within the first hour, can significantly reduce mortality; supports the global focus in 2025 on reducing sepsis-related deaths, promoting prevention and highlighting progress towards the 2030 Global Agenda for Sepsis, and encourages continued efforts to raise awareness and improve outcomes for people affected by this condition.
