Brain Health Services Pilot Report

The motion

That the Parliament commends the publication and findings of the final evaluationreport of the Brain Health Service pilot in Aberdeen, which was deliveredcollaboratively by Alzheimer Scotland, NHS Grampian and the ScottishGovernment; recognises what it sees as the effectiveness of the pilot’sapproach to promoting dementia prevention and targeted early interventions aspart of a wider brain health model to improve the health outcomes of people whoaccess the service; notes that up to 45% of dementia cases could be preventedby addressing 14 modifiable risk factors associated with dementia, includinguntreated hearing and vision loss, hypertension and cholesterol, traumaticbrain injury and social isolation; understands that dementia affects around90,000 people in Scotland today; believes that the impact of the condition onindividuals, families and communities is so significant that every effort mustbe taken to address its underlying causes; acknowledges that the work of theBrain Health Service plays what it sees as a vital role in promoting long-termcognitive health through awareness-raising and early engagement aroundlifestyle modification and dementia risk reduction; celebrates the success ofthe Brain Health Service in delivering a responsive and holistic approach tocare and support that enables service users to adapt their behaviours andaccess the range of support that they need to improve their brain health andoverall wellbeing, and wishes the service and its users continued positiveoutcomes in the future.
