Impact of Accommodating Asylum Seekers on Scottish Local Government

As an amendment to motion S6M-18780 in the name of Craig Hoy (Impact of Accommodating Asylum Seekers on Scottish Local Government), leave out from "acknowledges" to end and insert "notes that Scotland has a long history of being, and has always been, a welcoming place for migrants; believes that community cohesion should transcend political boundaries and be a shared ambition for all; acknowledges that the housing of asylum seekers in Scotland is primarily the responsibility of Scottish local authorities, but the policy of using hotels was originally determined by the last UK Conservative administration; further acknowledges that local authorities and the NHS are under significant pressure from changes in the population and both UK and Scottish governments need to provide support and resources in order to deal with these changes, and believes that the UK Government ought to speed up the claims process, and consider measures to allow asylum seekers to contribute meaningfully to the economy whilst awaiting decision."
