Merry-Go-Round Spinning Positive Change in Glasgow

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Merry-Go-Round, which is a social enterprise based in Glasgow’s southside, for its outstanding work in supporting families and promoting sustainable living across the city; notes that, since its founding in 2012, the organisation has rehomed over half a million baby and children’s items, saving more than 141 tonnes of goods from going to landfill, thereby reducing waste and promoting environmentally responsible practices; recognises the dedication, compassion and hard work of its staff and volunteers, who provide practical, affordable and accessible support to families, ensuring children have access to essential items and helping families make the most of available resources; acknowledges the organisation’s innovative approach to tackling overconsumption and promoting circular economy principles, including reusing high-quality clothing, toys and equipment, creatively repurposing materials and demonstrating how thoughtful reuse can reduce environmental impact; appreciates the organisation’s initiatives, such as its rental schemes and community partnerships, which extend the life of baby and children’s items, giving them new homes and a new purpose, while also inspiring sustainable habits in the wider Glasgow community; recognises Merry-Go-Round’s role in fostering a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment for families, encouraging volunteers and partner organisations to contribute to positive social and environmental change, and commends Merry-Go-Round for, it believes, making a tangible difference in Glasgow, showing how sustainability and community support can go hand in hand and setting an exemplary standard of how small, local actions can have a lasting and meaningful impact for both people and the planet.
