Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Jeans for Genes Week
The motion
That the Parliament celebrates the 30th anniversary of Jeans for Genes Week, which runs from 15 to 21 September 2025; understands that Jeans for Genes Week is an annual UK fundraising campaign dedicated to supporting children and families affected by genetic conditions, with schools, workplaces, and families across the country wearing denim to raise awareness and vital funds; commends the fundraising campaign, which has raised more than £52.3 million since its launch in the 1990s; understands that these efforts have resulted in 429 grants awarded, support for 190 charities nationwide, funding for pioneering gene therapy research and specialist clinical roles, the delivery of consultant-led support days and psychological care for families, and the reduction of isolation through family weekends and peer networks; notes that there are more than 6,000 identified genetic conditions, many of which are rare, and that GPs may never encounter certain disorders in their careers, which, it understands, can leave many families without answers or adequate support; commends the Jeans for Genes campaign for its continuing efforts to fill this gap by funding charities that provide specialist knowledge, medical guidance and emotional support; believes that Jeans for Genes is a symbol of hope, resilience, and community spirit, and wishes the campaign all the best as it continues transforming lives now and for generations to come.
