Welcoming the Decision to Formally Recognise the State of Palestine

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the decision of the UK Government to formally recognise the State of Palestine, reportedly joining 147 other UN member states and, in doing so, it considers, fulfilling a solemn responsibility; believes that the Palestinian people have the right to self-determination and to live in peace, security and dignity; recognises that Israel has occupied Palestinian territories since 1967 and believes that this occupation must come to an end; condemns the reported ongoing violence and mass civilian suffering in Gaza and the West Bank; expresses its deep concern at what many in the international community regard as acts amounting to genocide against the Palestinian people; calls for urgent international action to secure an immediate and lasting ceasefire, the protection of civilians and the upholding of international law; further calls for the immediate release of all hostages held by Hamas, and reaffirms its commitment to a just and lasting peace based on mutual recognition, security, human rights and justice for both Palestinians and Israelis.
