Defibrillators British Heart Foundation (BHF) Community
The motion
That the Parliament expresses its deep concern over the rising number of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OCHA), which has reached over 300,000 per annum in the UK; recognises that the survival rate of such incidents is less than one in 10; understands that the British Heart Foundation (BHF) has been actively working with the NHS, the ambulance services and Microsoft to create The Circuit, which is a network of defibrillators connected to every ambulance service in the country and accessible by members of the public; further understands that 12 communities in Scotland have been identified as priority areas for this lifesaving initiative, including Barlanark in Glasgow Shettleston; commends the British Heart Foundation for its commitment to equipping communities with defibrillators, unlocked cabinets, and free cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training resources through its RevivR platform; believes that more CPR training will benefit the population in becoming more confident using defibrillators; recognises the importance of registering defibrillators on The Circuit, to ensure rapid response in emergencies, and encourages eligible community groups across Scotland to apply for what it sees as this vital support to help save lives.
