The motion

That the Parliament acknowledges the success of the inaugural Orkney Food and Drink Festival, held at Kirkwall Grammar School from 20 to 21 September 2025; recognises that the festival was created with the support of the Regional Food Fund to showcase the outstanding array of local produce and culinary talent on offer across the islands; notes that the event featured cooking demonstrations, tastings and stalls showcasing the best local produce, while local businesses also got involved by crafting special festival menus; understands that celebrity chef, James Martin, alongside BBC MasterChef 2024 winner, Brin Pirathapan, and Great British Bake Off 2023 champion, Matty Edgell, also participated in the festival with a series of Q&A sessions and cooking demonstrations, including a Cupcake Bake Off, which saw four of Orkney’s finest young bakers aged 12 to 16 compete in a cupcake baking competition judged by Matty Edgell; believes that the festival has provided a valuable opportunity to showcase the very best of Orkney’s vibrant and unique food and drink sector; commends the hard work of all those involved in organising, as well as vendors and local businesses in creating, such a successful event, and looks forward to the festival continuing to champion Orkney’s incredible food and drink sector for many years to come.
