Union Terrace Gardens Shortlisted for Andrew Doolan Award

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that Union Terrace Gardens, in Aberdeen city centre, has been shortlisted for the Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award; notes that the Andrew Doolan award recognises exceptional architectural achievements in Scotland, in tribute to the late designer, and is coordinated by the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS); understands that Union Terrace Gardens is one of four contenders for this year’s award, having already been named one of Scotland’s top architectural achievements in the 2025 RIAS Awards earlier this year; believes that the redesign of the gardens, which introduced three pavilion-style structures for hospitality spaces and restored historic features such as statues, railings, arcade arches and the underground Victorian toilets, has been a great success in enhancing the accessibility and usability of the gardens for visitors, and hopes to see the award going to the Granite City when it is announced later this year.
