Celebrating the Coastal Community Network's Achievements
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the Coastal Communities Network (CCN) on achieving charitable status; believes that the coalition of over 30 community groups is a world-leading initiative; acknowledges that it aims to connect and strengthen community-led efforts to protect and restore the marine environment; understands that members of CCN work together to address a number of vital marine issues, such as marine litter and unsustainable aquaculture, and advocate for increased restoration of the marine environment and support for sustainable, low-impact fisheries that benefit coastal communities and nature; considers that community-led organisations, such as the membership of CCN, bring a valuable contribution to the protection and recovery of Scotland’s waters; believes there is a need for greater support for community groups working to protect their marine environments; notes what it sees as the value of including community voices at a national level in marine decision-making, and considers that there is a fundamental link between a healthy marine environment and the long-term wellbeing and prosperity of coastal communities.
