Leah Hunter Nominated for Young Vet of the Year Award by British Veterinary Association

The motion

That the Parliament understands that Leah Hunter, who is a vet at Flett and Carmichael Veterinary Surgeons in Kirkwall, has been nominated for the Young Vet of the Year award by the British Veterinary Association; notes that Leah is one of three finalists nominated from across the UK for this award; considers that this nomination is a remarkable achievement for Leah and a fitting testament to her professionalism, compassion and dedication to all aspects of her work at Flett and Carmichael Veterinary Surgeons; understands that Leah graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2021 before taking up her post in Kirkwall, where she has developed a particular interest in small animal dentistry, regenerative farming and sustainability in practice; notes that Leah demonstrates her commitment to nature and conservation by volunteering her time in a number of additional roles outside of her practice, including as a trustee of the Orkney Nature Festival, a British Marine Life Rescue medic and a Scottish Marine Animal Stranding Scheme volunteer; believes that Leah has a truly admirable work ethic; commends her clear dedication to supporting the local community in Orkney, and wishes her the best of luck at the British Veterinary Awards, which will be held in London on 16 October 2025.
