Creative Regeneration Greenock Receives £197,200 from Scottish Land Fund Grant
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Creative Regeneration on the award of £197,200 from the Scottish Land Fund, which supports rural and urban communities with grants to become more resilient and sustainable through the ownership and management of land and land assets; acknowledges that the funding will enable the purchase of the grade-B listed former sugar refinery in Greenock and the adjoining land at the Glebe; notes that this funding will support the transformation of the last remnant of Greenock’s historic sugar industry into a technical and creative hub focused on STEAM skills (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) and community learning; further notes that the redevelopment will include flexible accommodation, community spaces, offices and workshops, a STEAM makerspace for young innovators, a digital production studio for Vanishing Point Theatre Company, a retrofit hub and a national stained glass school; recognises the importance of preserving the site’s industrial heritage while creating new opportunities for innovation, education and skills development; believes that this investment will have a transformational impact on Inverclyde, supporting education, employment, culture and community regeneration, and wishes the organisation every success for the project.
