Baby Loss Awareness Week 2025

The motion

That the Parliament considers that Baby Loss Awareness Week, which takes place from 9 to15 October 2025, is a vital opportunity to raise awareness of pregnancy andbaby loss and to remember the lives of babies who have passed away too soon;notes that this event began in 2002 as a single awareness day, and has growninto a UK-wide week of reflection, remembrance and support for all affected bymiscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal death; acknowledges that the weekconcludes with the event, the Wave of Light, on 15 October, during whichfamilies across the country light candles in memory of their babies, whether inprivate or by sharing publicly as part of a wider community of remembrance andsolidarity; recognises the powerful role the week plays in breaking the silenceand stigma that can still surround pregnancy and baby loss, while offeringcomfort and connection to grieving parents and families; notes that publicbuildings and landmarks across the UK will once again be lit in pink and blueto mark the week and increase visibility of this important issue; commends thededicated work of Baby Loss Retreat, which is a Coatbridge-based charityfounded by Julie and Bryan Morrison, for its continued support to familiesnavigating the trauma of baby loss; recognises the charity's efforts to providespaces for healing, counselling and reflection; acknowledges the significanceof the Baby Loss Memorial Book, which was introduced in 2023 and providesbereaved families with a meaningful way to honour and remember their babies,and extends its heartfelt condolences to all those who have experienced theloss of a baby at any stage of pregnancy or shortly after birth.
