Recognition of Dyslexia Awareness Week Scotland 2025
The motion
That the Parliament notes that Dyslexia Awareness Week Scotland 2025 took place from 29 September to 5 October, under the theme “Busting Myths”, coordinated by Dyslexia Scotland; recognises that the week-long campaign aimed to raise awareness of dyslexia, challenge common misconceptions and promote a more inclusive and supportive society for the estimated one in 10 people in Scotland who are dyslexic; commends the work of Dyslexia Scotland and its partners in delivering a range of events, workshops and public engagement activities across the country, including in Coatbridge and Chryston; acknowledges that the campaign offered vital resources to schools, workplaces and communities to help improve understanding of both the strengths and challenges associated with dyslexia; notes the support for the ongoing goal of building a dyslexia-friendly Scotland where individuals of all ages are recognised for their potential and supported appropriately; further notes the view that it is important to address stigma and misinformation around neurodiversity, and notes the calls on MSPs, local authorities, employers and educational institutions to continue engaging with this important work, promote accurate understanding of dyslexia and listen to the lived experiences of dyslexic individuals.
