Celebrating the Growth of Women’s Participation in Shooting Sports

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the record-breaking growth in the number of women participating in shooting sports across Scotland and the wider UK, as highlighted by the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC); notes that, as of summer 2025, women and girls now make up 7.5% of BASC’s total membership, representing a new all-time high in female involvement in the sport; recognises the role of successful initiatives such as the Introduction to Deer Stalking Day and the Findrack Simulated Clay Shoot in creating inclusive, accessible, and supportive environments for women and girls to develop their skills and confidence in shooting; acknowledges what it sees as the wider benefits that participation in field sports can offer in terms of wellbeing, rural engagement, conservation awareness, and community building, and commends the ongoing work of organisations, clubs, and volunteers across Scotland who are encouraging greater diversity and representation within shooting sports.
