Congratulating the Buccleuch Street, Dalkeith, Project on Shortlisting in the 2025 SURF Awards for Best Practice in Community Regeneration
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Smith Scott Mullan Associates and Midlothian Council on the Buccleuch Street, Dalkeith, project being shortlisted in the Housing and Regeneration category of the prestigious 2025 SURF Awards for Best Practice in Community Regeneration; recognises that the SURF Awards, delivered annually in partnership with the Scottish Government, celebrate innovation, impact and achievement in community regeneration across Scotland; notes that Buccleuch Street is a key town centre regeneration project, which has delivered new affordable homes alongside commercial space, helping to revitalise Dalkeith’s historic centre; commends the project for being among the first Passivhaus-certified affordable housing developments in Scotland, providing homes with nearly zero operational carbon use and contributing to local and national efforts to address the climate emergency, and acknowledges the hard work of all those involved in delivering this exemplar project, which demonstrates how sustainable housing and community regeneration can go hand in hand.
