New SAMH Hub Brings Hope to Glasgow

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the opening of The Nook in Glasgow by SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health), which is the first walk-in mental health hub of its kind in Scotland; recognises that Glasgow has become the first city to host this pioneering initiative, which provides barrier-free and  immediate access to mental health support without the need for appointments, referrals or waiting lists; believes that The Nook will play a vital role in supporting people across Glasgow who are experiencing mental health challenges, by offering a safe and inclusive space where individuals can seek help, be heard and begin recovery; notes that the hub, based at Brunswick House on Wilson Street, will be open seven days a week and supported by an outreach programme to extend help to surrounding communities; commends Billy Watson, chief executive of SAMH, Shona Littlejohn, chair of SAMH, and all staff and volunteers for their leadership and compassion in establishing this service, and congratulates SAMH on choosing Glasgow as the home of the first Nook, marking what it sees as a significant step forward in the city’s ongoing efforts to improve mental health support and ensuring that help is available to everyone when they need it most.
