Sir Geoff Palmer and Anti-racism in Education
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes Heriot-Watt University’s decision to create the Sir Geoff Palmer Memorial Scholarship for students of Jamaican citizenship or descent; believes that the scholarship is a fitting recognition of the late Sir Geoff’s work in decolonising the Scottish education system; celebrates Sir Geoff’s lifelong commitment to fighting racism; condemns the reported 50% rise in incidents of racism or racist bullying in Scottish schools between 2024 and 2025, and notes the view that there is a significant amount of work to be done in tackling racism and decolonising the curriculum.
