Calling on the UK Government to Rethink its Energy Policy

That the Parliament notes with concern reports that the North Sea oil and gas contractor, Petrofac, has filed for administration; understands that this action puts at risk the jobs of around 2,000 people working at Petrofac’s North Sea hub in Aberdeen, which will be hugely concerning for employees and their families; believes that this is more evidence that the UK Government’s current approach to the North Sea energy industry is not working for Scotland, with several other companies in recent months and years having either cut their operations in the north east of Scotland or left the North Sea sector entirely; urges the UK Government to have a complete rethink of its approach to the North Sea energy sector, including the Energy Profits Levy, which has reportedly been cited by many operators as a reason for cutting their operations in the North Sea; asks that the UK Government stands ready to support any workers affected by Petrofac’s actions, and asserts that Scotland’s abundance of energy resources would be better stewarded by the government of an independent Scotland.
