Colour the World Orange For CRPS Awareness Month

The motion

That the Parliament marks Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) Awareness Month; notes that CRPS Awareness Month takes place every November to increase understanding of this serious condition; recognises that, as part of the initiative, Colour the World Orange Day™ takes place on the first Monday of November each year, when businesses, town halls and landmarks across Scotland and around the world light up orange in support of people living with CRPS; understands that CRPS is a debilitating chronic neurological condition, most commonly affecting the limbs, and is characterised by severe and persistent pain, changes to bones, joints and skin, swelling, temperature and colour changes, and motor dysfunction, which can cause life-altering pain and disability; further understands that the condition can develop after an injury, surgery, stroke or heart attack, and that the pain experienced is often disproportionate to the original injury; commends the volunteers and organisers at CRPS UK and Burning Nights CRPS Support for their tireless work to raise awareness of what is often a misunderstood condition; acknowledges that both charities provide vital information, support and advocacy for people affected by CRPS and their families, while also promoting further research and understanding, and wishes all the organisers, volunteers and the wider CRPS community, including those in the Motherwell and Wishaw constituency, every success in their efforts to raise awareness and shine a light on this devastating condition throughout CRPS Awareness Month.
